this is a hoax, bitches

i've always appreciated those cutesy "friendship day" or "i'm sending this cos i miss you" kind of forwarded mails, but i've never exactly been a fan of chain emails.

especially those email hoaxes, i'm particularly ANAL over those. i'm so anal, i've taken to replying these forwarded mails to the sender by chucking them a link that debunks the particular hoax.

now honestly, i'm sure many of you have received countless of email hoaxes:

"please save this girl from dying of *insert terminal disease of your choice* by forwarding this mail and each mail forwarded will donate 2 cents to the poor girl" complete with very kesian pic of some sickly child.
DON'T BE STUPID. i do admire those compassionate people who forwarded this kind of mail but NO, THERE IS NO TRACKING SYSTEM AND NO, THERE WILL NOT BE ANY 2 CENTS PER EMAIL DONATIONS TO WHATEVER SICK OR DYING KID. hello, in most cases the kid doesnt even fucking exist.

"bill gates is sharing his fortune!"
ZOMGWTFBBQ!!!1ONE. FOR REAL???
"For every person that you forward this e-mail to, Microsoft will pay you $245.00, for every person that you sent it to that forwards it on, Microsoft will pay you $243.00 and for every third person that receives it, you will be paid $241.00."
oh WOW. some more it's a joint effort by microsoft and aol WHO ARE RIVALS HELLO. sudden re-surge of popularity, this chain email, with subject title "UK REQUIREMENT".
yes bill gates damn freaking rich but he's got better things to do with his money. for fuck's sake, money so easy to come ah? hah?

some email hoaxes are forwarded, meaning well. for example, the two-way mirror thingy that was quite popular some time back (place your fingernail to check if there's a gap). and another one claiming that you can unlock your car using a handphone. and there's another on this rape drug progesterex that can make women mandul, mainly spread in friendster, this one.

hoaxes. it's very thoughtful that you wanna warn people and all, and it's important that we be careful and all that. but please check to see if what you're forwarding is a hoax or not.

speaking of friendster, isn't it a damn well-known fact by now that the stupid mr allen smith message is bloody false? and YET i still see it popping up every now and then. BOH SIEN AH.

also, still on friendster, they have dumb bulletin posts that you open only to see "now that you've opened this, you have to post this up again with the title "I AM GAY". do it or you really will turn GAY at exactly 1am today!".

ok digressing. enough of friendster. lalaland sial.

anyway, the sudden need for me to rant over the idiocy of all this is because the stupid msn email hoax is now in the rage AGAIN. neh, the one saying msn and hotmail is gonna start charging summer 2007 onwards (some idiot actually bothered to "update" this thing to 2007), and the email even includes a link to this bbc news article, which yes is authentic BUT IT IS DATED LIKE DONKEY YEARS AGO HELLO. PEOPLE. PLEASE FOR GOODNESS SAKE. WTF, YEAR 2001.

go and knock yourself out before forwarding the email.

you know, a lot of email hoaxes are actually pretty damn obvious. and if you're not sure anyway, very simple - just GOOGLE it. if it's a hoax, there'll be a whole host of links debunking it. you'll be spoilt for choice.

hmm? what's that i hear? very ma fan to check the authenticity?

OH, SO FORWARDING TO ALL YOUR CONTACTS NOT MA FAN LA.

WE ALL SPEND TIME WASTE ENERGY OPENING/READING/CLEARING THE MAIL NOT MA FAN LA.

OTHER IDIOTS WHO SIMILIARLY FORWARD THE MAIL, NOT MA FAN LA.

next time, please just check, thank you very much.

and here is HOW TO SPOT AN EMAIL HOAX. random link. many out there.

anyway, shall end this post with a mention of one hoax that i actually like. the ever infamous BONSAI KITTENS! was extremely amused when i received this hoax mail not too long ago from a coursemate. up until now the hoax is still going strong!

bonsai kittens. WAHAHA SO CUTE.

disclaimer: this blog post is obviously not written with particularly anyone in mind. if you've sent me any of those emails before, many others have sent them to me as well, much to my annoyance/amusement (depends on mood). i obviously don't remember who sent me what. but then again, if you did forward it/them to me before, well... you know what you should do next time another suspicious email comes along your way. do not insult your own intelligence.
